International Environmental Law in the African Union
Description:
Based on her recent publication An Introduction to the African Union Environmental Treaties, Ambassador Negm will discuss the Africa Union legal regime related to environmental issues and how the African Union has transitioned from the former management of natural resources approach to strategies of preservation and protection. She will also demonstrate the extent to which environmental issues are of critical importance to the African Union.
Bio:
Ambassador Dr. Namira Negm is the Director of the African Migration Observatory in Rabat. In 2017, she became the first woman to assume responsibility of the Office of the Legal Counsel in the History of the African Union. With a PhD in International Law from the University of London, the former Egyptian Ambassador to Rwanda has also worked as the Head of the Anti-Corruption Unit at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt and the Legal Advisor to the Egyptian mission to the UN in New York. She earned her PhD at the University of London.
